Community Group Lesson for Week of May 13
Sermon: It Takes A Village
Getting To Know You
1. Each of us had a different experience with our parents and drew different lessons from them. What do you think the most meaningful lesson you learned from your parents was that you could pass on to your children?
2. If you have children what has bee the most fulfilling and frustrating aspect of it? If you do not have children what do you most look forward to doing with them?
Digging Deeper
1. Read Genesis 1:28: God gives us the command to be fruitful and fill the earth. What are potential reasons why we do not fulfill this command? Is this a command that is irrelevant today? Why or why not?
2. Read Deuteronomy 21:18-21, Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6, & Proverbs 29:17: The bible has helpful, interesting, and down right strange advice for parents. Discuss with your group how these verses could be applied to us and how they can be helpful in raising children.
3. Read Deuteronomy 4:9-10 & 6:4-9: These passages teach us the importance of passing on our faith to the next generation. Why did the people of Israel need to be reminded of this? How might you pass on your faith to your children or how have you passed on your faith to your children?
Taking It Home
1. Which scripture verse read in the study is one that you will take with you for sometime into the future?
2. If you have children, what did you discuss today that you want to make more of a priority moving forward?2
